Poetry Previous Knowledge Paragraph

Just because rappers rap their lyrics on a beat, that does not mean that they are not poets. The christian rapper, Lecrae, is my favorite rapper and poet. He has amazing word play and his flow is outrageously catchy, which makes people who listen to him, want to listen to him. Lecrae's songs are more like poems then they are raps because he rhyme scheme is like Eminem's rhyme scheme; random, out of order, and original. Lecrae's writing style is straight up similes, word play, and rhyme.
Similes are great to use in poems and or raps because they give you a whole explanation of what the poet is trying to say with just a few words. Lecrae does an amazing job with similes, for example in one of his raps he said, " we'll fight for Jesus like it's after school". Now just hearing, fight like it's after school, already puts an entire picture and or explanation in your head without even thinking about it.Lecrae is also amazing in his word play use, just down right phenomenal.
Word play, word play, word play...the most important factor in writing music and Lecrae does an incredibly great job in doing so. For example he said in one of his songs,"I'm tryin' to live in the image I was created in Earth was perfect, He said it'll be that way again Then, we'll be really dancing with the stars I might just hang out on the Moon, take a trip to Mars Ours, will be a new Heaven, new Earth A new life inherited through a new birth" Yes h rhymes, but he said one thing while saying another. That's amazing! But as a rapper, Lecrae needs to also use an important factor, rhyming, you cannot make a rap without rhyme, a poem yes a rap, no, and Lecrae does a great job at that.
When it comes to just poetry, rhyming is not a huge factor, but when it comes to rapping, it is. Lecrae rhymes scheme is almost identical to Eminem's rhyme scheme, original. For instance he will rhyme then rhyme one word after then will not rhyme with that word until after an entire bar. In one of his songs he wrote,"I tell you what's better, or better yet worse chasing your own glory while doing the Lord's work, so holla if it hurts, but we were made for greater our greatest satisfaction is making His name famous so if we're never named among the greatest, they don't critically acclaim us, ain't nothing to be ashamed of we gave it up for the savior!" That right there is just great rhyming and he did not rhyme at every part that he should have, he mixed it up and put his own style in it.
So basically Lecrae is just an amazing poet, take out the fact that he raps, he is an amazing poet point blank and period. So once again, Lecrae does a phenomenal job on using similes, word play, and rhyming, just straight up amazing and I cannot stop saying that. Lecrae Moore is my favorite poet and rapper of all time.

  1. Yay! You wrote an entire essay instead of just a paragraph. Remember to codeswitch to school writing and avoid using so much slang, especially when you are using academic words, such as "rhyme scheme."
